Crepe paper flower wreath with wood frame

I just love The House of Smith blog and that is where I first saw the crepe rose tutorial that inspired this little craft. I followed her tutorial on the flowers except that I wanted light cream-aged flowers, so I dipped my roll of white crepe paper in coffee and then let it dry for a day before starting the cutting process. You can find the original tutorial here.

I just love how the flowers turned out.

The frame was very easy to do. I just purchased pre-cut wood at Michaels from the Doll House making section, glued them together with wood glue and painted it.

I first gave it a coat of white and then a coat of red with a sponge brush making sure I could still see some of the white. The top coat was a light brown I brushed on, but then, removed most of it with a paper towel to tone down the red.

I have very little patience, so in between colors I used my scrapbooking heat gun to speed up the drying process and then I noticed that the glue I used at the corners was bubbling up.

I actually loved how that looked so I rubbed on some glue on other parts of the frame, let it dry, painted over it and used the glue gun again to make it bubble.

I love the final look! I have it in my half bath and I love how it look against the dark brown walls. It was hard to photograph in the bathroom, but this gives you an idea:
